Grand Hotel Riviera - Sorrento

Wonderful location and view, directly at clifftop (10-15 min per foot into the old town centre), reception staff very friendly and helpful (not arrogant as we expected in a "grand hotel"); private "beach" (beach = wooden platforms an wave breakers at cliffbase); good breakfast; private parking directly at the hotel (included); we would book the riviera again when going to Sorrento!

Rooms were a bit dated - very 90's and hotel prob aimed at the more 'mature' market

The view of Mount Vesuvious from our balcony was superb, the location is convenient, just a 10 min stroll into the town of Sorrento.

The view from our partial sea view was wonderful! The staff was friendly and very helpful, especially Ciro, at the front desk. He is an invaluable employee and made our visit great! He arranged our Capri excersion, and wanted to make sure all our plans were in perfect timing with our departure. The entire experience was the best!

We only wish we had planned to stay longer...next time we will.

Large rooms, wonderful views

Breakfast was poor, pool was unheated, no in room facilities, eg no clock or tea making equipment

View was killer and had elevator to private beach area. Near Marina so we could easily catch ferry to Capri. Free parking.

Snooty restaurant staff. Expensive and mistreated when ordering a smaller meal. We simply did not like the air and treatment in the restaurant. I expect they cater to the most elite traveler and because we were able to book a good rate through booking, our budget style was a mismatch for this place. The room smelled sour too.

The view from the rooms is absolutely amazing. Staff were responsive to any enquiries. The private "beach" was a totally relaxing way to spend an afternoon while looking out over the sea and Vesuvius.

I liked the friendliness of the waiters.

Within walking distance of town centre with excellent shops and eating places and harbour area. Central location for trips to Pompei and Amalfi. Reception and restaurant staff excellent - nothing too much trouble. Snorkling off the 'beach' was fantastic with a great variety of fish to see.

Swimming Pool and 'Beach' closed at 1830hrs during peak summer period - should be open later to allow enjoyment of the evening sun. Would have liked to hire a small boat/canoe/pedalo from the beach area - not available, although free use of snorkles and flippers was appreciated. Parking can be a problem for the Hotel but not too much for guests - you leave the car keys with reception and staff juggle the cars in the restricted private parking area to allow entry/exit as required. Your car may be moved during the day even though you don't use it.

Location was excellent. Privacy - out of crowded centre of Sorrento. Fabilous views, perfect indeed. Private beach was much appreciated. A la carte menu was nice too.Public space of the hotel were very nice with views.

Dinner was served between 19 and 21 - nobody eats that time in Italy - except North European turists - I did not like this. Bar closed early. Pool and beach could stay open till 20 and not close as early as 18:30.Bit slimy staff. unclear billing when signing for the room bill, guest should have clear coopy every time one sign something - difficult to verify indeed. Also one staff member at the bar was doing some monkey business asking us to pay in cash in order to get better deals - Diego was his name - it was bit strange.

Beautiful views from bedroom and verandah. Wonderful position. Fantastic swimming, loved the private swimming area. Close to shopping area. Delicious breakfast. Would definitely love to return one day! Highly recommend this hotel

If anyone decides to stay in this hotel, he/she should do so only if willing to pay a little more and take a room with a sea view. The money is worth it then. The other rooms that don't have a room are very poor are not worth the money! We asked for a different room immediately and payed a little more, but we were very satisfied after the upgrade because we had an exceptional panoramic view. The room was very clean and you have the option to swim in the pool or go down with an elevator to swim in the sea!

Breakfast was also good. Although for the price, the hotel should offer fresh juice!

Well refurbished hotel in excellent location in centre of Sorrento. Stuuning views and hotel benefits additionally from free car park on site.

We had a fantastic stay, peaceful and relaxing. Wonderful views from balcony. Service and facilities excellent. Definately the highlight of our honeymoon.

We really loved the private beach area and pool area also excellent. The terrace had stunning views and was a lovely place for an early evening drink. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast excellent.

It was a 20 minute walk to the town centre - not pleasant in heat.
